Route

There is a gap in the Trail from Belleville to Shannonville, where you'll find a busy stretch of highway with gravel shoulders. From Shannonville, the Trail user has the option of following old Belleville Rd. northeast into the Township of Tyendinaga or taking York Road south to Beach and Ridge Roads through Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Tyendinaga Territory.

Located in the most southeasterly corner of Hastings County, Tyendinaga Township was created in 1820 from lands surrendered to the Crown by the Mohawks of the Tyendinaga Reserve. Like the Reserve, it took its name from Joseph Brant, a noted Mohawk Chief whose Indian name was Thayendinagea. Nestled throughout the picturesque countryside of Tyendinaga Township are hamlets such as Roslin, Blessington, Read, Melrose, Lonsdale, Marysville, Milltown and Shannonville. Visitors will find numerous antique, craft and pottery shops. With its many streams and rivers and abundance of forest land, the Township is also a most attractive location for sport fishermen and outdoorsmen.

  • HWY 2 between Belleville and Point Anne Lane is 4-lanes wide with wide gravel shoulders and no sidewalks. There is an angled crossing of the CP rail line at Haig Rd., which is a hazard.
  • From Point Anne Lane through the Township of Tyendinaga to Shannonville, HWY 2 is 2-lanes wide with a wide gravel shoulder and no sidewalks. The suggested route continues south from Shannonville along Beach Road.
  • A formal, signed route in Tyendinaga is expected to be finalized in the near future. The following is the proposed route through the Territory.
  • Follow old Belleville Rd. northeast from Shannonville, continue east past Marysville to Deseronto Rd.
  • Turn south onto Deseronto Rd. and continue into Deseronto, where signed Trail resumes.
