Bike Trip
By Cori Linetsky
18-6-07

I went on a two-day bike trip with my mom on the waterfront. We started at the mouth of the Rouge River in Toronto. There we saw hundreds of swallows making their nests. Sometimes they would fly very close to your head! There were a lot of people fishing too.

Then we went through Ajax where there were a lot of midges! But we came to a beautiful spot with a red maple and a bench where we rested.

On the second day, we went to Pump House Marsh. We looked at the marsh from the lookout and from the dock.

Then we came to a beautiful park on Oshawa Harbour. It has a great playground near a beach and the beach has rocky piers that you can walk on. There are suckerfish and minnows that you can sometimes see as well.

If you want to do this trip (Mom's note):

Day One: We rode 25 km from Rouge River to just inside Whitby. We ended the day at the Tim Horton's at Victoria St where we called a cab to get to the hotel. The cabs had no problem with accommodating the two bikes (we told them before they picked us up). We brought bungie cords with us to secure the trunk once the bikes were in.

Where We Stayed: Residence Inn, Whitby

Day Two: We rode 20 km from Whitby to the Oshawa/Clarington boundary. Dad picked us up from Oshawa.

We used bikes with hybrid tires on the trip.

Float Your Fanny Down The Ganny
By Cori Linetsky

Float Your Fanny Down the Ganny was an event last April where people would create boats and ride in them down Ganaraska River. The event took place at Optimist Park.
When there weren't boats coming down the river, fish would be jumping out of the water! We also saw little bids that were very cute.

At the finish line, there was music and food and drinks. When the boats came, people would squirt the boats with water guns and hit them with water balloons. One boat squirted them back!

At Optimist Park, there is a baseball diamond. So Optimist Park must be really fun in the summer.

If you have a trail tale of your own, we'd love to hear it. Send an email to da@wrtrust and tell us about your trip on the Waterfront Trail!
