Mayor joins cyclists in unveiling waterfront trail signs



September 6, 2006 – Mayor Rosen will preside over the unveiling of one of the City of Kingston’s new Lake Ontario waterfront trail signs at the foot of West Street near the Pump House Steam Museum, 23 Ontario St., on Friday, Sept. 8, at 9 a.m.

The event is part of the 2006 Waterfront Regeneration Trust Trail Managers’ End-to-End Cycling Tour, a gathering of all municipal partners involved in the Waterfront Trail and Greenway. The Waterfront Regeneration Trust trail initiative connects 41 communities located along Lake Ontario and extends from Niagara on the Lake to Quebec. The City and the Waterfront Regeneration Trust are celebrating six newly installed trailhead signs which detail the waterfront trail route through the City of Kingston. The city, as part of their partnership with the Trust, will be creating new and improved pathway linkages through Lake Ontario Park.

Trailhead Signs

  • Arthur Lower Park (Bath Road)
  • Rotary Park (corner of Coverdale Road and Rotary Park entrance)
  • Lake Ontario Park (to the east of 1032 King Street West)
  • West Street (Pump House Steam Museum)
  • Fort Henry (at the Tourist information parking lot)
  • Highway 2 at the MacLachlan Woodworking Museum

The bike tour leaves Adolphustown on Thursday, Sept. 7, and arrives in Brockville on Sept. 9.The Waterfront Regeneration Trust invite any interested cyclists to tour with the group. The Trust group departs the Pump House museum on Friday, Sept. 8 at 9:20 a.m. After the unveiling, Mayor Rosen will cycle with the group along Ontario Street to city hall. The group will continue to follow the waterfront trail route along Highway 2 to the city limits and continue on to Gananoque.
