GREAT WATERFRONT TRAIL ADVENTURE – JANUARY MEETINGS
Thanks to all our partners who attended the January planning meetings
for the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure. Your feedback, ideas and enthusiasm
were much appreciated. The momentum is truly building and we look forward
to incorporating your suggestions and thoughts as we move forward with
planning of the tour.
The meetings provided us with an important opportunity to examine the
successes and lessons learned from the first GWTA and delve into the planning
and logistics of the 2009 tour. If you were unable to attend the meetings
and would like more information, please contact Ian Lobb at il@wrtrust.com.
Thanks again and we look forward to working with you all in the coming
months to make the 2nd Annual Great Waterfront Trail Adventure a success!
JOIN US AT THE MONTREAL BIKE SHOW (EXPODIUM) FEB 20-22
The Trust is very pleased to be attending the Montreal Bike Show (Expodium)
on Feb 20 -22. The show will provide us with an excellent opportunity
to promote the Waterfront Trail and the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure
to Quebec cyclists. With the connection between the Route Verte and the
Waterfront Trail now in place, the time is right to highlight this exciting
inter-provincial connection. The cycling tourism market in Quebec is very
well developed and represents a large potential market for Ontario tourism
operators and events such as the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure.
To compliment our promotion efforts in Quebec, we’ve translated
the entire Great Waterfront Trail Adventure site into French! The translated
site will be up and running by mid-February. We’ve also printed
1,000 copies of the promotional post card in French to distribute at the
show. In addition, we’ll be unveiling the 2009 Waterfront Trail
Mapbook, which incorporates all of your revisions and updates.
Hope to see you there!
WINTER TRAIL MAINTENANCE IN MISSISSAUGA
Residents of Mississauga will now be able to enjoy the Waterfront Trail
year-round. Mississauga Parks now provides snow clearing, salting and
sanding for a variety of City buildings (community centres and libraries)
along with park frontages and some park pathways, including the Waterfront
Trail.
The City is interested in encouraging active living and in promoting year-round
use of parks. With this in mind, provision has been made in the 2009 Parks
and Forestry Operating and Capital Budget requests to allow for winter
maintenance of the full Waterfront Trail stretching from Clarkson through
Port Credit to Lakeview.
The first priority for Parks is to clear walkways around buildings and
parking lots. The Waterfront Trail will, along with other park pathways,
be considered as Priority 2 and will be cleared within 48 hours of a significant
snowfall, and salted and sanded as required.
Congrats to Mississauga for this excellent initiative!
