Kayak the 1000 Islands on Day 6

Take a break from cycling to enjoy a paddle in the stunning 1000 Islands near Gananoque. The 1000 Islands Kayaking Company is hosting two 2-hour programs (9am and 10 am) on the morning of July 9th. The cost is $45 + GST per person and will include your kayak and all the necessary safety gear, professional guide and a wonderful river experience that we're sure will have you asking for more. To register, please call the 1000 Islands Kayaking Company direct at 613-329-6265 and specify the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure group. Feel free as well to call them with any questions or concerns you may have. After your paddle, we’ll shuttle you and your bike ahead to the lunch stop at Brown’s Bay where you can rejoin the tour.

July 5th is Family Day on the Waterfront Trail

For 2009, we have created a new family friendly option as a way to make the Adventure even more accessible to families who want to experience what the waterfront communities have to offer. Join the tour on July 5th for a family-friendly escorted ride from Burlington to Fort York in Toronto. End off the day with a visit to Ontario Place (passes included)!

The GWTA is memorable way for a family to share a physical accomplishment, see our beautiful Great Lake waterfront and have a great time. Click here to for our "Family Day" info sheet (pdf format).

Overnight at Fort George

Thanks to our partners at Fort George in Niagara-on-the-Lake, we will have the opportunity to spend the night of July 3rd inside the walls of the fort with some festive 1812 celebrations. All participants of the GWTA will be able to pitch their tents, obtain their kits, and camp under the stars prior the launch of the ride the following morning. For those who wish to stay in the barracks that evening, a sign-up will be created closer to the date for a small fee TBD. The details regarding sign-up, long-term parking in NOTL, as well as a Bike Train option from Toronto to Niagara will be posted on our website in the coming weeks. Keep checking back for updates!!

Recommendations for families:

For 2009, we have created a new family friendly “One Night Adventure” option as a way to make the Adventure even more accessible to families who want to experience what the waterfront communities have to offer.

Families are an important part of the Adventure. The GWTA is memorable way for a family to share a physical accomplishment, see our beautiful Great Lake waterfront and have a great time.
