The Great Waterfront
Trail Adventure totals approximately 680km from
end-to-end. Over the course of the 8 days
, riders will encounter mileages ranging from
64km to 123km, with a total of 3 days over 100km
each. Depending on the itinerary you choose (end-to-end,
overnight or the one day option), being
in good physical shape can make all of the difference
to your enjoyment of the trip.
It is recommended that
cyclists have done at least 1000 kms of riding
before the tour. There are several books, internet
sites, cycling clubs, and bike stores that offer
advice on how to prepare for a week-long cycling
event, and there are several coaches and trainers
who will be able to help you set up a program
in preparing for the Great Waterfront Trail Adventure.
We have also listed
a basic training program below to help get you
started, but it is important to check with your
doctor before beginning this new training program
and exercise; this may be a good time to participate
in a physical exam. Keep in mind, the information
and suggestions provided on this web-page and
in this web-site have been developed to assist
Trail users in getting ready for their recreational
trips along the Waterfront Trail. Only you know
your body and how much exercise it is capable
of, please consult a health care professional
before beginning this suggested program.

CYCLING RIDES/CLUBS
There are several cycling clubs across Canada
that offer weekly rides, and your local bike shop
is a great resource for finding people to ride
with. We have also created a forum for you to
communicate with other Great Waterfront Trail
Adventurers and as a resource to form your own
training group. The Ontario Cycling Association
website is also a great resource for finding cycling
clubs (http://www.ontariocycling.org/web_pages/club_affiliated_clubs.php).
COACHING LINKS:
A coach or trainer will be able to offer a more
individual training program to help fit your lifestyle
and schedule, as well as oversee your preparation
to limit injuries while supporting your goals
to gain fitness. If you would like to work with
a coach to help get ready for the Great Waterfront
Trail Adventure, check out the following links.
